From the map below, you can click and follow trumpeter swans that were released in the Blackfoot Valley of west-central Montana. These trumpeters were released with the intent of restoring a breeding population of trumpeter swans to the Blackfoot River Valley.

Trumpeter swans were first recorded in the Blackfoot Valley by Captain Meriwether Lewis of the Corps of Discovery on his return trip through the Blackfoot Valley in July of 1806. Through nearly absent from the valley for nearly 200 years, miraculously a pair was spotted near the town of Lincoln in the headwaters in 2000. From this sighting, a cooperative partnership was formed between private landowners, public, private and federal sponsors. And so began the Blackfoot Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program ...
