Nesting Trumpeter Swan Webcam

About the Webcam
This webcam is located at a restored wetland near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. At the camera's center is a trumpeter swan (Cygnus buccinator) nest that has been used by this particular pair of swans for the past couple of years. Trumpeter swans lay up to nine eggs but typically only rear two to three cygnets (the term given to swan nestlings) per year. Incubation takes 33-37 days and once hatched, the cygnets remain with their parents until the subsequent spring. Trumpeter swans reach sexual maturity at three years of age. At which time they select a mate whom they will remain with for life.

Trumpeter swans are listed as species of concern in Montana and Wyoming. This designation means that they are native to the state, however they are at-risk of extinction due to declining population trends, threats to their habitats, restricted distribution, and/or other factors. The Blackfoot Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program seeks to restore these majestic birds to the Blackfoot Watershed. To learn more about swans, click here.
