Welcome to the Blackfoot Community Project, the land transaction involving the Blackfoot Challenge, The Nature Conservancy and Plum Creek Timber Company. From the headwaters of the Blackfoot to the Clearwater drainage, this "home-grown" effort is a rare opportunity for local residents to guide the future ownership and management of over 89,000 acres of large, intact landscapes with critical community, agricultural and biological values.
To date the acquisition phase of the project has been completed and over 47,000 acres have been transferred to a mix of private and public owners. In 2009 we are planning on sales to five private ranches, the Bureau of Land Management, and the State of Montana. In addition we will be offering five parcels, ranging in size from 72 to 640 acres on the open market. Each tract will be sold with a conservation easement that permits one homesite.
