Involving Communities in Conservation and Building Watershedwide Partnerships

In the Blackfoot, it’s the people that make the difference—private landowners, teachers, students, public agencies, local businesses and conservation partners—working together to conserve the vitality and integrity of the watershed for future generations.  This legacy depends on what we are doing today to provide information and education about resource conservation and stewardship.  For that reason, thanks to funding from the Chutney Foundation, the Blackfoot Challenge has developed a watershed-wide education partnership around the needs of teachers and students, community members, recreationists and visitors.  To get a feel for our approach, join us in the field or in one of the following projects!

Tours & Field Days
Landowner Tour 2004
One of the best ways to learn about the work of the Blackfoot Challenge is to see projects first-hand in the field.  For that reason, the Challenge is committed to hosting tours for landowners, agencies and other groups interested in our effort to conserve the natural resources and rural lifestyle of the watershed.

Outdoor Learning Sites
The purpose of these sites is to provide opportunities for teachers, students, landowners and the general public to take advantage of the watershed as an outdoor classroom and to showcase natural resource conservation and stewardship.

Teacher Resources & Education
Eight public schools within the Blackfoot watershed serve over 700 students from Lincoln, Ovando, Helmville, Seeley Lake, Greenough, Potomac and Bonner.

Publications, Resources and More
Our goal is to provide the watershed community with publications, resources, links and other educational materials on conservation and stewardship.
