Welcome to the Blackfoot Community Project, the land transaction involving the Blackfoot Challenge, The Nature Conservancy and Plum Creek Timber Company. From the headwaters of the Blackfoot to the Clearwater drainage, this "home-grown" effort is a rare opportunity for local residents to guide the future ownership and management of over 89,000 acres of large, intact landscapes with critical community, agricultural and biological values.
The BCP reached a major milestone in December of 2007 when The Nature Conservancy purchased the final 20,000 acres from Plum Creek to complete the acquisition phase of the project. Through 2007, the Conservancy has resold approximately 33,000 acres, primarily to public agencies. In 2008, the disposition emphasis will now shift to the private sector with sales to the adjacent ranchers who held grazing leases on the former Plum Creek land.
