Integrated, locally-led approaches to invasive plant management across fence lines

The introduction and spread of noxious weeds poses a serious threat to wildlife habitat and agriculture in the Blackfoot. Controlling weeds, while troublesome, often serves as a cornerstone for partnerships. The communication and collaboration necessary for effective cross-boundary weed control brings more than 100 partners together, including private landowners, agencies, and organizations. A strong private-public partnership has evolved since the 1980s to cooperate on integrated weed management across boundaries, linked by 18 landowner-led Vegetation Management Areas (VMA), three county weed districts, and federal and state public agencies. Addressing this ongoing watershed-wide concern means we are continuously developing new partnerships and projects together.
